< is proud to welcome its new nurse practitioner, Maria Mellgren.
Mellgren was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden and received her nursing degree, from Ersta Sjuksköterske Skola. Mellgren received her Certificate as a Nurse practitioner in adult health from St.Catherines College in St. Paul in 2006.
Upon moving to the U.S. with her husband, a professor of surgery at U of M, and her three children, she decided to pursue a more hands-on, people-oriented approach to nursing. She has held a variety of leadership positions, including Director of Nursing and a teaching position at Red Cross College of Nursing in Stockholm for three years. Most recently, Mellgren worked at Macalester.
Mellgren’s main goal at Carleton is to be part of a team that provides healthcare and supports wellness for students so they can excel both in academics and as individuals. She likes to work on an individual level with students to find a “do-able” solution that can be achieved by setting short-term goals.
Her primary focus will be physical concerns and ailments, but she is also very interested in helping students with the mental aspect of overall wellness. She sees herself as a facilitator for students who can help them with anything from the flu to directing them to providers for depression.
Mellgren has already become active toward improving life on campus. She played an instrumental role in starting evening clinics at the Wellness Center which will take appointments as late as 8 p.m. For more information visit the Wellness Center website.
With the addition of the evening clinic and Maria’s holistic approach to nursing, the Wellness Center and Carleton are lucky to have her. Please help the Wellness Center welcome her and her family to the Carleton community.
