Women’s Cross Country
The Number 10 Knights placed third as a team on Oct. 19, totaling 75 points and only losing to competitive Division I teams Oregon State and Portland at the Linfield George Oja Invitational in Salem, Oregon. Hannah Preisser ’26 shined, breaking 21 minutes in the 6k for the first time with a time of 20:56.00 to finish 3rd. Sophie McManus ’25 ran 21:51.70 to finish 14th and Aliya Larsen ’26 ran 22:16.7 for 19th. Libby Rowland ’25 ran a time of 22:39.9 for 27th place, Lara Erickson ’25 ran a PR of 22:52.4 for 32nd place, and Nora Daley ’27 dipped under 23 minutes for the first time with a time of 22:54.2, placing 35th. Kayla Marx ’28 lowered her PR to 23:44.7, and Maggie Vortruba ’25 also ran a PR of 24:11.9. Preisser earned her third career MIAC Athlete of the Week award for the performance and the Knights remain undefeated against Division III competition, with the MIAC Championships coming up at St. Olaf on Nov. 2. Preisser is only the fourth athlete to win 3 or more XC Athlete of the Week awards in a singular season, joining last year’s 4-time NCAA individual champion from St. Benedict College Fiona Smith (who now runs for the defending Division I NCAA XC Champions NC State University) and Carleton alumna Simone Childs-Walker.
Men’s Cross Country
The Knights finished fourth at the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Portland, Oregon on Oct. 19, totaling 76 points. Gabe Nichols ’26 led the team with a 5th-place individual finish, running 25:20.9, while Roy Llewelyn ’26 placed 9th in 25:45.6. Josh Meier ’25 ran a PR of 26:24.8 for 17th place, Travis Brown ’28 placed 22nd with a PR of 26:38.5, Indy Lyness ’26 opened his season in 23rd with a time of 24:39.4, with Ravi Achar ’28 closing out scoring in a PR of 26:48.4, placing 29th. Torte Tortensen ’27 also ran a PR, finishing 32nd in 26:51.5, and Ryan Bernstein ’26 finished 35th in 26:59.00. Next up for the Knights are the MIAC Championships on Nov. 2 at St. Olaf.
Volleyball
The (11-10, 2-5 MIAC) Knights lost 1-3 to Macalester College on Oct. 18, winning the second set. Rachel Bingham ’27 had eleven kills and Ellewyn Stafford ’28 had ten kills. Megan Smith ’25 had thirty-eight assists and Madeleine Demeitre ’28 had fifteen digs to lead the team. The Knights lost 1-3 to Augsburg University on Oct. 23, with Kerrigan Candra ’25 recording fourteen kills and Smith having thirty-four assists and ten digs. The team is ranked eighth in the MIAC standings.
Women’s Soccer
The Number 19 (13-1-4, 7-0-2 MIAC) Knights beat Hamline University 4-0 on Oct. 19. Goalkeeper Avery Trapp ’27 and the defense shut Hamline out, as the opponent recorded no shots through the whole game. Loren Arzayus ’25 scored two goals, and Lauren Caldwell ’27 scored alongside Dylan Baker ’26. The Knights kept their place atop the regular season MIAC standings with the win. Trapp made five saves on Oct. 21, when the Knights tied 2-2 with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Caldwell and Baker scored a goal each, with Baker earning MIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The Knights beat the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 2-0 on Oct. 23, with Ashlyn Haigh ’26 and Kathryn Kreese ’25 scoring a goal each.
Men’s Soccer
The (9-4-3, 4-4-0) Knights beat Hamline University 3-0 on Oct. 19, pushing them above their opponents in the regular season MIAC standings for fourth. Hamline was only able to record six shots to Carleton’s sixteen. Ben Pennell ’26, Briggs Priem ’26, and Owen Flanagan ’25 all scored a goal apiece. Alexander Grosse ’26 shined on defense in the shutout games by blocking any shot attempt by the MIAC’s top goal-scorers, one from each team respectively, in the two games. He earned his first career MIAC Defensive Player of the Week award for his efforts. The Knights lost 2-3 to Augsburg University on Oct. 23, with Flanagan scoring his 10th goal of the season and Priem scoring a goal. Goalkeeper Daniel Linder ’25 tied his season-high with six saves. The Knights are ranked sixth in the MIAC, tied with Hamline with 12 points on win/loss/tie record. Only the top six teams make playoffs, which start on Nov. 4.
Football
The (2-4, 1-3 MIAC) Knights lost 7-48 to Number 3 St. John’s University on Oct. 19. Tyler Diamond ’26 scored a touchdown and Tyler Mastronardi ’28 scored a field goal.
